Planting the Constellation

Plant the stars! Help HALO Whakatāne create a Matariki constellation native planting at the Whakatāne Rose Gardens. Kindly supported by local arborists. 

• Planting date: Friday 1st July 
• Time: 10.00.am 
• Venue: Whakatāne Rose Gardens McGarvey 

We will be planting 9 trees in the Matariki star cluster configuration. This planting will be in the moon phase of Tane Mahuta which falls around the 1st-3rd of July. HALO Whakatāne Education team has ignited an initiative that we hope will continue to build support and input in the coming years. This is a collaboration of HALO along with the support from local arborist businesses who are offering sponsorships for a Matariki holiday planting event. The arborist businesses are: 

• Andersen Trees Services 
• Ash & Oak and ALFA Contracting 
• Branchn Out 
• Harawira Contracting 

These native trees are selected for their ability to tautoko the local birds and provide ecological services.
