Te Pakau (Eight Acre) Waimana Valley, Te Urewera National Park

Once a dairy farm, this campsite is near the Waimana River. There are numerous walks into the spectacular forest nearby.

Te Urewera is recognised in New Zealand law as a living person. Te Urewera is spoken for and governed by a board. Care for Te Urewera, including the tracks and facilities, is carried out by Te Uru Taumatua – Ngāi Tūhoe’s operational entity.

Getting there: Follow Bell Rd off SH2 near Waimana and then onto Matahi Valley Rd. The campsite is 27 km from SH2.

Access: Gravel mid-Matahi Valley Rd.
