Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool

Although it's not technically in the Whakatāne District, the Kawerau hot pools are free and offer heated pools, including a giant spa pool. The whole complex is surrounded by large recreation and play areas, where barbecue and picnic tables are available for families and larger groups to hire.

The free, heated pool complex is situated in the middle of the township of Kawerau opposite the Information Centre. There is a large 30 metre pool which is divided by a bulkhead into a 25 metre pool and a 5 metre pool, and two smaller pools for children.
