Where spectacular is par for the course
While other clubs around the country suffer from wet feet during the winter months, Whakatāne’s sun-filled golf courses offer crisp, dry greens year-round, coupled with spectacular scenery. If you’re looking for a great destination for a golf weekend getaway with friends or even a fun day trip for a round or two, we've got you covered.
Our links and championship level courses offer a game to rival many of the top courses in New Zealand, and our country courses allow for a laidback game set amongst stunning natural environments.
Ōhope International Golf Club is one of New Zealand’s most scenic golf courses, uniquely situated on a narrow finger of land between the ever-changing Pacific Ocean with views of Moutohora (Whale Island) and White Island/Whakaari on one side and the beautiful unspoilt Ōhiwa Harbour on the other. The course is rated one of New Zealand’s top-five links courses, it also features on Tourism New Zealand’s website as one of the North Island’s best courses.
With sandy soils and more sunshine than any other North Island region, the 18-hole course is dry underfoot year-round, offering consistent playing conditions.
"The seaside terrain is as dramatic as anything in the British Isles and the views are exceptional. This is links golf to match the very best anywhere." - Greg Turner (New Zealand golfing legend)
