Giving the Ocean a Hand - Chorus Cabinet art

Painted as part of the Chorus Cabinet Art programme by Amanda Herbert, you'll find this mural in Ōhope.

A bit about the piece by the artist: "This was inspired by our impact we have on our environment. We need to take a more responsibility for our oceans and its wildlife. If we look after our oceans now, we will have it for generations in the future to enjoy. I love to wrap images around cabinets where they are seen from all sides.  This cabinet has a moon reflecting on the oceans at night, on the other side seen from the pathway around the harbour."

This work is part of the Chorus Cabinet Art programme: "Our cabinet art initiative began in 2010 with a test pilot in Auckland to try to reduce the amount of vandalism to our telecommunications cabinets. It proved so successful we have extended it throughout the country and now complete on average 100 murals a year. The programme is proving invaluable as a way to help promote a sense of community belonging, identity and pride while also helping to discourage anti-social behaviour."
