Mountain Biking in the Whirinaki

Mountain Biking in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park

Whirinaki Forest Mountain Bike Track closed. The track is closed until further notice. It has been assessed by DOC and is unsafe for visitors to use due to damage caused by recent severe weather. There are many fallen trees making the track unrideable. Check the DOC website for updates here.

The Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne mountain bike trail is perfect for beginner and intermediate mountain bikers, with a 16 kilometre (2-4 hour) loop. For the more experienced, the Moerangi trail is considered a ‘must do’ among biking enthusiasts, climbing 1000 metres and offering sensational rewards.

A shared-use track that includes an optional overnight stop at a historic hut and amazing views from the top of the Moerangi saddle.

One of New Zealand's most remarkable and significant forests and a must-see biodiversity hotspot.
